1. Dr. Steven Keogh - completed his FRACP 3 years ago and took a temporary consultant post in Newcastle before being recruited back to MMC and RCH as a consultant paediatric oncologist. Steven then started extra training in bone marrow transplantation, and has been in the UK at Manchester Children's for the past 18 months working primarily as a bone marrow transplant physician. He will return to Australia in February 2011.
2. Dr. Marty Campbell - Marty completed his FRACP 2 years ago, and took an extra Fellowship in clinical oncology at Calgary University hospital in Canada. Marty has done some research work on clinical trial development as well as neuroblastoma research. He is still in Calgary but is looking to complete his 3 years there and return to Melbourne in mid 2011.
3. Dr. Pratiti Bandopadhayay - has now completed her FRACP, and works as a consultant paediatric oncologist at MMC one day a week. Pratiti is also 3/4 of the way through her PhD, which consumes the other 8 days of her week! She has taken the path of training in paediatric brain tumours, and her PhD is on a specific tumour suppressor gene, and she is developing some new drug targets against cancer through this work. She has been accepted at the Dana Faber hospital in Boston which is part of Harvard University, to do post doctoral research on paediatric brainstem tumours. She will take up this appointment in mid 2011-until 2013; she will then work for 12 months at the Insitute Gustave Roussy in Paris where there is another world-leading paediatric brain tumour facility, and we look forward to Pratiti's return as a paediatric neuro-oncologist in 3-4 years from now.
4. Dr. Paul Wood - Paul completed his FRACP last year. He has a second degree in pharmacy, and is now half-way through a PhD in neuroblastoma research.
5. Dr. Seong Lin Khaw - Seong completed his FRACP last year and has been appointed as a consultant oncologist at MMC working in our clinic Thursday mornings. Seong is also doing his PhD on molecular genes, and will be fully qualified in mid 2011. Seong will continue to develop his research once he has completed his PhD, and will continue to provide his clinical expertise at MMC. |

6. Dr. Rachel Conyers; Rachel has another 12 months to go before she completes her FRACP. She spent last year in the UK working at Great Ormond street Hospital for children in London, working in bone marrow transplantation, and then in adolescent cancer medicine. She has returned to Melbourne this year, and taken up a PhD at the Peter MacCallum hospital in adolescent cancer medicine.
7. Dr. Ruchira Mishra - Ruchira came from India and worked as a Fellow here with us for 12 months; she has since taken a position to train more specifically in bone marrow transplantation in Sydney and will return to India next year.
8. Dr. Joanne Padre - Joanne came originally to train as a paediatric oncologist with us to learn more about childhood cancer - she is a qualified paediatric haematologist in her native Phillippines. Joanne has been in the Fellows role for the past 2 years, with the decision to study for her FRACP examinations next year.
9. Dr. Myooren Wimalendra - Myooren was recruited from Cambridge, UK as a Fellow at MMC in 2009; this year he has continued training in bone marrow transplant medicine.
10. Dr. Carola Titgemeyer - Carola started at MMC as a Baileys Day Fellow earlier this year having come from Bremen in Germany; she has enjoyed working here, and has learnt a great deal about paediatric oncology, as well as the Australian way of doing things! She will return to a new consultant post at her primary hospital in mid 2011.
11. Dr. Radakrishnan Kottaram - Dr RK, as he is known, started as a Fellow last year. He is originally from India, but has been training in haematology in Australia for the past 5 years. He is now a qualified specialist in paediatric blood diseases, and is continuing his training in paediatric oncology with us for 2011. |
