Once
again in 2006, the winners of our charity golf event will have their
names engraved on the Bailey's Day Trophy. This hand made trophy,
which takes the form of a teddy bear, was made by Victorian glass
blower Crystal Stubbs.
Crystal
Stubbs is an Australian glass artist, based in East Gippsland, Victoria.
She produces hot solid formed glass sculptures that are figuratively
based. Crystal sculpts the glass using stainless steel tools while
it's at temperatures of up to 1100º C - a very difficult process.
Crystal
has an honours degree in Fine Arts from Monash and has also studied
under Italian glass maestros Dino Rosin and Pino Signoretto at 'Pilchuck',
the acclaimed school of glass art in Seattle, USA.
Having
recently built a brand new studio in East Gippsland, Crystal is
busy creating her new body of work, which exhibits around Australia
and internationally.
When
asked to produce the Bailey's Day Trophy back in 2004, Crystal was
only too happy to help.
"Cancer
effects nearly everybody, and a member of my own family is suffering
from the disease as we speak. I think we should all get on board
and help however we can," she said.
The
Bailey's Day Trophy is perpetual and after the event will be displayed
in the Monash Medical Centre. The winners will receive replica trophies
to keep as a memory of their great golf on a great day. |
