The Baileys Day Trophy, a hand-made glass teddy bear created by Victorian glass blower Crystal Stubbs, has become a sought-after prize with the names of our annual charity golf event engraved on it for all to see in the display cabinet at Monash Medical Centre.
The winners also receive their very own smaller, hand-made version of the trophy as a reminder of their achievement on the course and their involvement in this hugely important charity event.
Crystal Stubbs is an Australian glass artist based in Victoria who produces hot, solid formed, glass sculptures that are figuratively based.
With an honours degree in Fine Arts from Monash, Crystal has also studied under Italian glass maestros Dino Rosin and Pino Signoretto at 'Pilchuck', the acclaimed school of glass art in Seattle, USA.
Working from her studio in East Gippsland, Crystal is busy creating her new body of work, which is set to exhibit around Australia and internationally.
Crystal was approached to create the Bailey's Day Trophy back in 2004 and was honoured to help.
‘It's an honour to be involved with Bailey's Day as cancer affects nearly everybody and my own family has been touched by the disease.
‘The Bailey's Day Bear trophy symbolises the hope that this great charity helps bring to the many families affected by childhood cancer. I think we should all do as much as we can to help.’
Each year, Crystal hand sculpts the replica trophies so that winners go home with a completely unique piece, making for an immensely memorable souvenir of the day and a reminder of what Bailey’s Day aims to achieve.
